California Coast

Living in San Jose and going to school in Los Angeles, I travel up and down California pretty often, and my favorite way to do that is on the Amtrak Coast Starlight. It's cheaper than a plane, more comfortable than a car, and it just so happens to have some of the best views of the coast anywhere in the state. There are portions of the California coast that are owned by the US military, so they're never accessible to the public - with the exception of Amtrak, whose tracks run right through. So, whenever I take the train, I make sure to bring a few cameras and bunch of film, because I'm pretty likely to catch some gorgeous views of the Pacific.

While I mostly take the train, I do also sometimes go on short road trips along the coast - in particular, I do a yearly weekend trip to SLO and Morro Bay every fall with my friends. That's where I got the seal, bird, and otter photos you see on this page, most of which I took from the Morro Bay glass-bottom tour boats.
